Aransas Sand Terriers are emerging from the lineage of a Norfolk Terrier-Chihuahua patriarch (Lucky) and a Norfolk Terrier-Labrador matriarch (Mercy). The breeding process began unknowingly in 1993. Over the past 11 years, progress has been made in reducing the length of hair, establishing a white to sandy shade of fur, and instilling an affectionate and playful disposition. They have been bred outdoors in the sandy oak brush of southern Aransas County with their hair bred down from a Terrier-like fluffy wire hair to a smoother, shorter and more white or sandy Labrador-like fur to better tolerate the semi-tropical heat of South Texas. Their average weight is about 25 lbs. and 18 inches in height. Sand Terriers are playful, affectionate, trainable for indoors and enjoy the water

Aransas Sand Terrier litters are wormed over the first six weeks with the first set of required shots given at seven weeks. Puppies are on momma's milk and get a little boost of Pedigree meat at three weeks. Great effort is made to care for mom and pups, and the rest of the pack.
